Three outstanding South Australia Police (SAPOL) officers have been acknowledged with Australian Police Medals (APM) in the 2025 King’s Birthday honours.
Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott, Superintendent Craig Wall, and Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Hughes were recognised for their dedication to policing and a collective 109 years of service.
Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens APM LEM congratulated the three APM recipients on receiving this significant honour.
Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott (pictured, centre) joined SAPOL in 1987 and has impressive experience in Special Tasks and Rescue (STAR) Division, Human Resources Service, and Communications Group. Regional policing experience as Officer in Charge of Riverland and Murray Mallee Local Service Areas (LSA), and now as Assistant Commissioner, State Operations Service, where he has driven road safety policing, regional policing, and First Nations policy and practice (including Closing the Gap initiatives) with extraordinary commitment.
Superintendent Craig Wall (pictured, left) joined SAPOL in 1986 and similarly has vast experience in Special Tasks and Rescue (STAR) Division, along with Protective Security Service, Transit Services Branch and Public Transport Safety Branch. Superintendent Wall led country and metropolitan front-line services as Officer in Charge of Hills Fleurieu LSA, Eastern Adelaide LSA and later Eastern District. He returned to STAR in 2020 and now heads the Security and Emergency Management Service Coordination Branch.
Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Hughes (pictured, right), joined SAPOL in 1993 and was initially posted to the Elizabeth Police Station. She has extensive experience in the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and worked on the Focus 21 initiative that set the strategic direction for SAPOL at the time. Detective Senior Sergeant Hughes has played an integral role in protecting children and managed the Australian National Child Offender Register (ANCOR) Unit. She led networking across agencies, significantly enhancing information sharing between jurisdictions and ensuring children at risk receive timely and appropriate protection.
