Work on the Maranoa region’s new multi-million dollar Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre Project is now officially underway.
With an investment of $5 million from the Queensland Government, the centre will feature a 50-metre outdoor heated pool, enabling year-round usage; a 25-metre indoor program pool for lessons and therapy; a vibrant water play area for young families; swim club facilities; and fully accessible amenities to promote inclusivity for all.
This development is a long-term investment in Roma’s liveability and a legacy that aligns with Queensland’s delivery of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie said in a statement.
“The Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre is set to become the heart of Roma’s community life, fostering health, connection and opportunity,” the Deputy Premier said.
“This is more than just an aquatic centre – it’s a symbol of our commitment to improving regional liveability and creating a legacy for future generations as we look towards the 2032 Games.
“Partnering with the Maranoa Regional Council, we are delivering infrastructure that supports economic growth and strengthens communities.”

Maranoa Regional Council Mayor, Wendy Taylor, expressed her enthusiasm for the project’s potential to transform the community.
“This centre will provide a state-of-the-art facility that our residents can be proud of,” Mayor Taylor said.
“It’s a testament to what can be achieved when governments and industry collaborate, and it will leave an enduring legacy for our region.”
Once operational, the centre will provide opportunities for regional competitions and aquatic events, boosting tourism and enhancing Roma’s profile as a destination in regional Queensland.
Member for Warrego, Ann Leahy said the aquatic centre would improve the South West’s liveability and provide a great recreational space for Roma families.
“The Crisafulli LNP Government is proud to work in partnership with councils to deliver vital infrastructure for local communities,” Ms Leahy said.
“Projects like this are all a part of the LNP’s commitment to deliver a fresh start for Queensland,” she said.
