Queensland Under Treasurer appointed

The Queensland Government has today announced the appointment of finance and banking leader, Paul Williams, as the State’s new Under Treasurer.

Mr Williams (pictured) has more than 25 years’ experience in the banking and property industries, both in Australia and internationally.

He has served as Chief Financial Officer of Queensland-headquartered People First Bank and has worked in property and finance in Australia and overseas.

The central agency of Queensland Treasury leads the development of the Queensland Budget, provides fiscal, economic and intergovernmental policy advice, and now oversees energy policy for the state government.

Treasurer David Janetzki said Mr Williams was an outstanding candidate for Under Treasurer.

“We thank Mr Williams for joining the Treasury in this critical role,” Treasurer Janetzki said.

“His appointment is a significant coup for Queensland.

“Mr Williams will guide Treasury as we meet the fiscal challenge of the debt and deficit legacy we inherited, as revealed in Labor’s last budget update.

“I would also like to thank Acting Under Treasurer Rachel Crossland, who provided excellent leadership and wise counsel during her time in the role,” he said.
