The Queensland Government has pledged $500,000 to Redland City Council to develop a business case to explore the possible future duplication of E.G.W. Wood Bridge on Rickertt Road in Thorneside.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Brent Mickelberg said the finalised funding agreement would unlock important progress on the project.
“This business case is a critical first step for a project that has been long overdue,” Minister Mickelberg said.
“We are working with Council, and together we will continue working to deliver for the local community.”
Acting Mayor, Julie Talty said the purpose of the business case was to better inform key decision makers about what challenges and costs would be involved in duplicating the bridge and road that spans Tingalpa Creek.
“The scope of the business case work is to determine the cost-benefit analysis of either replacing or duplicating the existing bridge and upgrading the single-lane sections on both the southern side in Redland City and the northern side in Brisbane,” Cr Talty said.
The Acting Mayor welcomed the Government’s commitment of $500,000 in funding towards the business case, which is expected to be delivered by Council by mid-2027.
Division 10 Councillor, Paul Bishop said the bridge was a key commuter connector for the two cities.
“The initial business case will explore options to upgrade the bridge, assess the project’s complexities and scale, and help guide future decisions and requirements,” Cr Bishop said.
The business case is an investigatory first step for the Council.
Currently, there is no funding agreement from any level of government for the bridge upgrade, and the project is not in Council’s capital expenditure forecast.
