Queensland multicultural community action fund opens

Applications open today for a new $15 million funding pool through the Queensland Government’s Community Action for a Multicultural Society program, which aims to deliver more opportunities for multicultural communities to participate socially and economically across the state.

The funding is being made available to councils, community organisations and service providers and must be used to strengthen local initiatives which expand social and economic inclusion for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

A funding pool of $3.1 million per year is available over the next five years, with individual grants valued at up to $172,000 per year.

Minister for Multiculturalism, Fiona Simpson (pictured, centre) said the Community Action for a Multicultural Society program would strengthen community capability, build partnerships and improve access to services.

“This is about building a stronger and more connected Queensland,” Minister Simpson said.

“We want to empower local organisations to utilise their knowledge around the needs of their community to deliver practical initiatives which strengthen inclusion, build capability, and expand opportunities.

“This program aims to foster partnerships which improve community safety, strengthen social cohesion, as well as broaden awareness of and engagement with available opportunities within culturally and linguistically diverse communities.”

Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland chief executive, Lisa Ward said the Community Action for a Multicultural Society program would deliver strategic and locally grounded initiatives which break down barriers to economic and social inclusion.

“We strongly encourage eligible organisations to apply and to continue achieving meaningful long-term outcomes for the communities and clients they serve,” Ms Ward said.

Applications close on 9 June 2026.
