Jay Peckitt has been chosen to lead one of the State’s biggest public sector agencies, the Department of Education.
A passionate advocate for public education, for more than two decades Mr Peckitt has worked in senior positions across the Western Australian State Government, including nine years at the Department of Education, said Education Minister, Dr Tony Buti.
“We are fortunate to have a new Director General with such deep knowledge of the workings of the Department of Education, who will be able to build on the successes already achieved in his current role on the corporate executive,” said Minister Buti.
“He will oversee the State’s multibillion-dollar record investment into public education infrastructure and the rollout of the landmark Better and Fairer Schools Agreement, which will see all WA public school fully and fairly funded at 100 per cent of the Schooling Resource Standard by 2026.
“With an impressive background across the public sector, Mr Peckitt will bring valuable insights and experience plus a broad understanding of the wider operations of government to the public school system.”
Mr Peckitt is currently Deputy Director General education business services for the Department of Education, where he delivers services and solutions for schools through finance, infrastructure and information and communications technology.
He has spent time at the Department of Communities as a special advisor and has been named Chief Financial Officer of the Year and Young Leader of the Year (pictured with the award in 2018) by the Institute of Public Administration Australia.Â
The appointment of Mr Peckitt is for a five-year term commencing on Monday, 11 November.
