Origin duties first call-out for Queensland Police EV

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has welcomed the first fully electric vehicle to its fleet, with the introduction of the Kia EV6 GTLine Highway Patrol car.

The QPS says the 1980s-look design inspiration behind the bright yellow concept vehicle is a nod to the rich history of the State’s Highway Patrol, whilst acknowledging the organisation’s emerging electric future.

The launch coincides with State of Origin at Suncorp Stadium tonight and its first tasking will be to escort the Queensland team from their hotel to the game.

As well as the retro yellow exterior, the interior of the car has been decked out in maroon in support of the Queensland Maroons side.

Extensive planning and consultation has taken place to deliver the EV, which draws attention to itself and builds on the current QPS extreme high visibility concept.

There are five of these high performance, high visibility concept vehicles that will be rotated through specific policing divisions across Queensland.
