NT Govt confirms new youth hub site

The Northern Territory Government has announced the new location for the Northern Suburbs Youth Hub.

The Youth Hub will be built at the Leanyer Recreation Park precinct, following feedback about the previously proposed site at the former Casuarina Fire Station.

The new site, based within a popular recreational precinct with existing public transport links, allows the Youth Hub to be easily accessible for young people and families across Darwin’s northern suburbs, said Minister for Youth, Seniors and Equality, Jinson Charls.

Minister Charis said a dedicated Youth Hub was essential to providing young people in the Darwin region with a safe place to learn new skills, access support services, and participate in pro-social activities.

“Territorians have waited too long for a permanent home for the Youth Hub in the Northern Suburbs and I’m pleased to confirm the new location in our government’s year of action, certainty and security,” he said.

“We went to the election with the commitment to look at alternative suitable locations after listening to the community, and that is what we’ve done.

“The current SHAK Youth Drop-In Centre at Sanderson Middle School, which has been running since October 2021, will continue to operate as an interim youth hub providing essential referral pathways and early intervention to support young people while we build the permanent facility.

“I will work with my colleagues in the northern suburbs to engage with the community about the relocation of the Youth Hub to the new site.”

The Government says targeted communication and engagement will be undertaken to inform the community about the new site, listen to feedback and address any concerns.

In the 2025-26 Budget, to be handed down next Tuesday, $4.619 million has been allocated for the project.
