NSW Police have commenced a critical incident investigation as they continue to search for gunman, Julian Ingram, who remains on the run in the state’s west.
Last month, police responded to reports of an alleged shooting in Lake Cargelligo that resulted in the deaths of three people – a 25-year-old pregnant woman, a 32-year-old man and a second woman aged 50 – and the serious injury of a 19-year-old man.
Following inquiries, officers commenced Strike Force Doberta to investigate the incident and issued an arrest warrant for Mr Ingram over the alleged murders.
“As part of these inquiries, police have declared a critical incident investigation to ensure all actions and investigations of the NSW Police adhered to the legislation, policy and guidelines,” Police said in a statement today.
Investigators will also examine the full domestic violence history of the alleged suspect and his access to firearms.
The investigation will be led by a critical incident team from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
Meanwhile, search efforts are continuing at Lake Cargelligo and surrounding areas for the 37-year-old.
Specialist police teams from State Crime Command, Tactical Operations Unit, Tactical Operations Regional Support, Negotiation Unit, Rescue and Bomb Disposal including search co-ordination and drone pilots, Rural Crime investigators, and investigators from Central West Police District, remain in place conducting task-focused searches.
“Police wish to reassure the community that locating Julian Ingram remains a priority, as officers continue to investigate under Strike Force Doberta with intelligence-led policing at the forefront,” NSW Police said.
Police believe he may have been to a rural property, about 3km south of Mount Hope on Kidman Way, in the evening between Saturday 24 January 2026 and Sunday 25 January.
Members of the public who witness any suspicious activity or have concerns for their safety are encouraged to call Triple Zero (000).
