NSW Police student stood down after drunken academy crash

A student at the NSW Police Academy has been charged with mid-range drink driving in Goulburn after he allegedly drove into the facility’s front boom gate overnight.

In a statement, NSW Police said that at around 12.15am today, security officers at the NSW Police Force Academy were alerted to damage caused to a boom gate at the entrance of the Academy.

“On further inspection, the officers located a vehicle parked on the side of McDermott Drive, with a man in the driver’s seat,” NSW Police said.

“The man – a 33-year-old police student – was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.”

He was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station, where a secondary breath analysis was conducted, which returned an alleged reading of 0.108.

The man was issued a field court attendance notice for drive with middle range PCA and his NSW driver’s licence was suspended.

He will appear at Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 16 July.

The student has been stood down and his professional suitability is under review, NSW Police confirmed.
