A NSW Police officer has been charged over an alleged assault that occurred during an arrest in Ashfield last year.
In a statement, NSW Police said that shortly before 3am on Friday 7 November 2025, officers were called to an address in Ashfield following reports of a man allegedly trespassing at the property.
“Officers arrested a 32-year-old man at the scene, and during the arrest, he allegedly assaulted two police officers. The man was charged, and the matter has been finalised at court,” NSW Police said.
“During the 32-year-old’s arrest, it is alleged he was assaulted by a 42-year-old Sergeant attached to a South West Metropolitan Region Command.
“Following inquiries and a review of the incident, a Future Court Attendance Notice for the charge of common assault was served on the Sergeant.”
He is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 3 September.
NSW Police confirmed the officer is currently suspended with pay.
