Nominations open for NT nursing excellence awards

Nominations are now open for theĀ 2026 Northern Territory (NT) Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, with four new categories this year.

The awards celebrate the exemplary work of nurses and midwives who positively impact the health and wellbeing of Territorians.

Nominations will close on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

There are 15 award categories for nurses and midwives working in any health care setting. The categories recognise excellence in client care, education, research, professional leadership and commitment to the nursing and midwifery profession in the Territory.

They are:

🟠 Rising Star – Excellence in Early Career

🟠Excellence in Education

🟠Excellence in Research/Quality Improvement

🟠Excellence in Aged Care and Residential Care

🟠Excellence in Leadership

🟠Excellence in Rural and Remote Nursing/Midwifery*

🟠Excellence in Primary, Public Health and Community Nursing/Midwifery*

🟠Team Excellence Award

🟠Client Appreciation Excellence Award

🟠Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurse or Midwife of the Year*

🟠Enrolled Nurse of the Year*

🟠NT Administrator’s Medal for Lifetime Achievement

🟠Nurse of the Year

🟠Midwife of the Year

The four new categories (*) this year reflect the evolving nature of the awards as it grows in popularity and nomination size.

All nurses and midwives who hold a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (except for the NT Administrator’s Medal for Lifetime Achievement) and are employed in the NT as a nurse or midwife at the time of nomination (or within 12 months of nomination) are eligible for nomination. 

Award finalists will be announced on Friday,Ā 27 March. Award winners will be announced at a gala ball in Darwin on Friday,Ā 8 May. Tickets will go on sale from Friday, 27 March. A URL to ticket sales will be provided closer to the date. Ā 

Nominations can be made by members of the public, including health care colleagues, online atĀ nmea.nt.gov.au.
