New WA service to foster support for family carers

A new service to bolster support for Western Australia’s foster and family carers has launched today.

The Department of Communities’ ‘Fostering Connections’ team will provide a single point of contact for foster and family carers on information such as carer entitlements, policy and procedures, along with various carer supports available.

The team will also be an avenue for feedback and suggestions for future improvement to policies and supports.

Through the launch of the platform, the WA Government will deliver on all remaining recommendations of the Foster Care Refresh Project to improve outcomes for children in care across the State, said Child Protection Minister, Sabine Winton.

“The Cook Government values all family and foster carers who give so generously by opening their homes to help children and young people reach their full potential,” said Minister Winton.

“The Cook Labor Government is thrilled to announce Fostering Connections is now live and ready to provide information and advice to all family and foster carers.”

Other recommendations that have been delivered include a $17 million investment to increase foster carer support services, launching a State-wide recruitment campaign, and developing a guide for foster and family carers.

“I’m proud that our Government is on track to complete all recommendations outlined as part of the Foster Care Refresh Project,” said Ms Winton.
