New WA early childhood sector safety law passed

WA’s new Education and Care Services National Law Application Bill 2025 (Bill) has passed the Parliament today.

The Government says the new legislation aligns more closely with other jurisdictions and will enhance safety and wellbeing in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) settings.

It will also provide for the timelier introduction of future amendments to National Law, said Early Childhood Minister, Sabine Winton.

“This Bill is a critical step in aligning Western Australia with the rest of the country when it comes to enhancing safety and wellbeing in Early Childhood Education and Care settings,” said Minister Winton.

“This legislation builds upon the ongoing work done by Western Australia’s ECRU in the compliance and enforcement of the ECEC sector.

“I would like to thank those all of those who have helped the Cook Government reach this milestone.”

In Australia more than 1.4 million children benefit from Early Childhood Education and Care services and in WA 130,000 children attend an approved service.

The Minister said the ECRU will continue to inform the ECEC sector on implementation dates in the coming months.
