The new $12 million Sandgate and Districts Ambulance Station has been officially opened in Brisbane’s northern suburbs.
The state-of-the-art station is home to 25 full-time equivalent paramedics, an Officer-in-Charge, three patient transport officers and provides paramedics with first-class facilities.
The modern fit-out includes an office and write up space, charge and breakout areas, locker rooms, a multi-function rest, study and training room, general meeting room and a 10-bay plant room for ambulance vehicles.
“We are investing in a more modern, responsive and reliable ambulance service for Queensland,” said Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Tim Nicholls.
“The Crisafulli Government, in its first 10 months in office, has invested a record $33.1 billion in health and ambulance services, to help cure Labor’s Health Crisis and their decade of decline.
“To have modern infrastructure behind our paramedics to care for the community is paramount, and I’m proud to roll open the doors to Sandgate and districts’ state-of-the-art ambulance station.
“We want our paramedics and patient transport officers to start and end their shifts in facilities with purpose-built infrastructure, and with training rooms so they can continually grow and learn in their careers.
“The communities in and around Sandgate will feel more comfortable knowing that they have easier access to health services when they need them.
“Our paramedics do a fantastic job and our Government is backing them the tools and infrastructure crucial to their roles in saving lives.”
QAS Assistant Commissioner Tony Armstrong said the completion of this replacement ambulance station will ensure the QAS can continue supporting current and future demands for ambulance services to the growing community amongst Sandgate and the surrounding areas.
“Metro North is one of the busiest regions for ambulance demand in our state, and to provide our paramedics and patient transport officers with a purpose-built replacement ambulance station here at Sandgate and districts means so much for our hard-working team.
“Our highly skilled team of paramedics and patient transport officers can operate from a well-functioning structure with future opportunities for growth,” Mr Armstrong said.
