Queensland Police Minister, Mark Ryan and Commissioner Katarina Carroll were in attendance today for the official inauguration of Burketown’s latest police station.
Minister Ryan and Commissioner Carroll commenced the event by addressing attendees, followed by the unveiling of the commemorative plaque, which acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Gangalidda People.
“The establishment of this new facility will serve as a pivotal resource for the police, ensuring their consistent delivery of exceptional services to both the local community and the broader far north region,” said Commissioner Carroll.
“Enhancing and modernising facilities is a vital aspect of the QPS’ commitment to effectively serve the community.
“I would like to thank all those involved in this project and especially the officers in the district who work tirelessly to keep their community safe.”
The recently established facility, located on Gregory Street, replaces the previous police station that stood adjacent to it.
An investment of $2 million was allocated to ensure the new facility’s optimal condition, design, and functionality.
The new facility boasts a range of amenities including a dayroom, meal room, interview room, equipment room and staff locker room.
The Police Minister said the new station aimed to serve both the Burketown community and the broader public, ensuring that officers are adequately equipped to address the evolving needs of the community.
“The renovated police station in Burketown exemplifies our continued dedication to equipping the local police service with an exemplary facility and essential resources to effectively protect and serve the community,” said Minister Ryan.
“The Queensland Government remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the utmost standards for policing infrastructure.
“I extend my gratitude to Burketown Police for their continued professionalism and dedication.
“We are confident the new station will serve as a catalyst to further empower Burketown Police, enabling them to continue making significant and invaluable contributions to our community,” the Minister said.
