A new secure digital initiative that will centralise information and improve the efficiency of resource environmental applications in Western Australia has been launched today.
The new Resources Online platform is set to significantly expand and improve the digital capability of mining and petroleum environmental lodgements, while providing a better customer experience and improved business processes, said Mines and Petroleum Minister, David Michael.
“Resources Online represents a major step forward in making Government services easier to access and navigate,” said Mr Michael.
“While we are working hard to improve approval timeframes across the resources sector, at no point will we compromise on community expectations or the interests of Traditional Owners.”
Administered by the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS), Resources Online will replace the current Environmental Assessment and Regulatory System (EARS) with a consolidated solution in a single platform.
The portal forms part of the WA Government’s Fast Tracking Mining Approvals (FTMA) program that aims to improve environmental applications and assessments, potentially shortening approval timeframes for certain smaller or low-risk projects.
The Minister said industry was widely consulted throughout the new portal’s design process, providing a range of general and technical feedback prior to today’s launch.
The platform is being implemented using a phased approach, with further initiatives being introduced in 2025. Phase one will focus on migrating Programmes of Work (PoW) from EARS to Resources Online. More information on the rollout is available on the department’s website.
Users will be able to access Resources Online through their DEMIRS’ My Account.
