The Broken Hill Hospital Emergency Department (ED) refurbishment has reached its latest milestone, with Stage 2 of the $12 million project now complete.
Stage 2 includes the reconfiguration of five treatment bays, staff spaces and clinical back-of-house areas to provide a more functional clinical workspace for staff, as well as patients in need of emergency care.
The ED upgrade is being built in three stages, with Stage 1 completed in March 2025.
“The completion of Stage 2 of the Broken Hill ED is great news for staff, who now have a better space to work in when treating people needing emergency care,” said Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park.
“The progress of the ED upgrade to the final stage means we are another step closer to a first-class and modern health facility for the people of Broken Hill.
“Patients and visitors will see some major changes with the start of the third and final stage now under way. This will include the construction of a new entry and waiting room, an improvement in patient flow and a much smoother ED experience.”
The final stage of the ED upgrade is now underway and includes the construction of a new main entry, reception area, waiting room and triage space, as well as an interview/consult room and two treatment bays.
A new Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (MHIPU) is also being delivered in parallel, separately funded under the NSW Government’s $700m Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program.
Construction on the MHIPU is progressing well and is expected to be completed in late 2025.
