The strategic direction of the National Capital Authority has been set, with a new Statement of Intent provided to Minister for Territories, Kristy McBain, today.
Earlier this year, the Minister issued a Statement of Expectations to the NCA, which set in action a new operating framework for the statutory authority.
The Statement of Expectation recognises the independence of the agency, while also providing greater clarity on the Australian Government’s policies and priorities for the National Capital.
“Providing the NCA with a Statement of Expectation is part of my commitment to ensuring the agency continues to operate with transparency and accountability – while delivering on the Australian Government’s priorities for safeguarding the National Capital,” said Minister McBain.
“It includes a focus on strengthened planning and approval processes, including through closer cooperation with the ACT Government, and increased community and stakeholder engagement.
“This will ensure all Australians have opportunities to have their say in the ongoing development of their National Capital.”
The NCA has now provided the new Statement of Intent, which will underpin the future direction of the agency, and its work to progress the Government’s priorities.
Work to implement this is being led by Karen Doran PSM – appointed Chief Executive earlier this year – who brings significant experience in public sector leadership and governance, including overseeing the roll out of critical projects across the ACT.
“As a proud Canberran with a professional background in both the Federal and ACT public service, I welcome the Statement of Intent’s focus on deepening our engagement with the community, and working with stakeholders, including the ACT Government, to support transparent and well-managed planning and approval processes, and the promotion of Canberra as a National Capital for all Australians,” said Ms Doran.
“The NCA will regularly update the Minister and the community on progress against the Statement of Intent, as part of our ongoing stewardship of the National Capital.”
