The Queensland Government has confirmed appointment of three new Deputy Commissioners within the Queensland Police Service.
The appointments follow the announcement of the retirement of Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy.
The new Deputy Commissioners are:
- Deputy Commissioner People and Assets, Mark Kelly;
- Deputy Commissioner Disaster and Emergency Management, Chris Stream;
- Deputy Commissioner Regional Operations, John Tims.
“I want to formally congratulate them and wish them luck in their roles and know they will play a critical role in making Queensland safer,” said Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Dan Purdie.
The Minister said the new Deputy Commissioners bring a broad range of skills, experience and perspectives from within and external to the QPS.
“Deputy Commissioner Mark Kelly has more than 36 years’ experience within QPS and has spent the last 18 months as Acting Deputy Commissioner, Regional Operations leading state operations overseeing community safety, resource management and regional performance,” he said.
“Deputy Commissioner Chris Stream has more than 34 years’ experience within QPS and has been acting in the role in the last 10 months during which he led state wide disaster responses and recovery coordination, major capability programs and strategic governance initiatives.
“Deputy Commissioner John Tims is a senior policing executive with more than 38 years experience. As Deputy Commissioner of the New Zealand Police, he has led national operations across 12 districts, overseeing more than 10,000 staff and delivering major reforms in culture, accountability and performance.”
