New and improved NT Bus Tracker app rolls out

The Northern Territory Government is rolling out a new and improved NT Bus Tracker app in a bid to improve public transport safety across the Top End.

The Government says passengers can now better plan their travel and save time, with the app providing real-time information about buses initially in Darwin and Palmerston with Alice Springs to come on-line soon after.

The app brings key features in demand by passengers including improved trip planning, real-time tracking of buses, notifications of bus arrivals and upcoming departure stops and working out the quickest route.

Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure, Bill Yan said the new NT Bus Tracker app is another step by the Government to give passengers greater confidence to feel safe and informed when catching a bus in the Territory.

“We continue to build a public transport system that better serves Territorians by enhancing service delivery for passengers and drivers,” Mr Yan said.

“This means less time waiting at bus stops for passengers and giving our hard-working bus drivers confidence that we are actively tracking where they are.”

The app is a key reform of the Government’s Bus Safety Reform Strategy, delivering a safe public transport system demanded by Territorians.

“We are tackling Labor’s public transport mess head on by shutting down outdated interchanges, boosting surveillance, and now empowering passengers with real-time information to better plan their trip,” Mr Yan said.

The new NT Bus Tracker app will be available for download on the Apple App Store starting today (1 August). The roll out on Google Play is expected to follow shortly.

The existing app will remain operational and accessible until mid-September, providing users with a transition period to migrate to the new version.
