The new state-of-the-art Ripley Police Facility has been officially opened, with the purpose-built three-storey complex to also serve as the Headquarters for Ipswich District Police.
The building will also accommodates several specialist units including the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU), and Forensic Crash Unit (FCU).
The new $38 million Ripley facility can house more than 200 police officers and support staff, while also offering the capacity to expand in line with the region’s rapidly growing population.
The facility will serve communities from Toogoolawah in the north, Boonah in the south, Goodna in the east and through the Brisbane Valley to Rosewood in the west.
Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing said locals deserved police resources that met the evolving needs of the community.
“This new facility is more than a building – it’s a hub for community safety,” Acting Commissioner Pointing said.
“The brand-new facility aligns general duties, as well as specialist proactive and reactive units to coordinate and place QPS resources where they are most needed and can be most effective.”
Ipswich District Officer Acting Superintendent Ben MacKenzie said the new facility was designed to enhance workflow between the units and featured key components such as major incident rooms, Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) spaces, forensic science labs and a vehicle examination bay.
A/Supt MacKenzie said the frontline capability had been bolstered by 30 QPS officers who now serve as part of the new Ripley Station.
“The addition of these general duties officers at the Ripley Station will strengthen our presence in the area and ensures the QPS can continue to meet the ever evolving and unique needs of this growing community,” A/Supt MacKenzie said.
“The central location will provide a valuable opportunity to enhance our relationships with the community and foster greater public confidence in our efforts to keep the community safe.”
