Million-dollar Marine Rescue boat launched for Pilbara

The WA Government has delivered four new key assets to help fire and emergency services volunteers keep Pilbara communities safe.

“Our dedicated emergency services volunteers in the Pilbara face unique challenges protecting families, landscapes, and businesses across the region,” said Emergency Services Minister, David Michael.

“It is vitally important the volunteers have the resources they need to do what they do so well on land and water while also keeping them safe in their response.”

A $1 million 10-metre inflatable boat (pictured) has been launched by Marine Rescue Port Walcott.

The Pilbara Seeker IV, a rigid hull vessel, is equipped with advanced navigation, communication and search systems to support offshore and long-range operations.

The new boat will also assist Marine Rescue Port Walcott in its youth program, which includes eight members developing skills in marine safety, first aid, and vessel handling.

Wickham Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service has been allocated a $310,000 light tanker to enhance its response capability to incidents such as structural fires, bushfires, and road crashes.

The 20-member brigade has responded to 50 incidents in the past two years.

Nearby Roebourne State Emergency Service (SES) was handed a new general rescue truck worth $420,000 to lift the unit’s response capability in the region.

The appliance features upgraded lighting, crew support, and on-board equipment battery charging.

Karratha State Emergency Service received a $152,000 general rescue utility to strengthen the range of appliances available to protect the community.

The Unit is also a key contributor to broader SES capability across the Pilbara, regularly supporting neighbouring units and the local Department of Fire and Emergency Services office through training and operational assistance.
