A critical incident investigation has been declared after a man was shot by NSW Police following an incident at a shopping centre in Sydney’s northwest today.
In a statement, NSW Police said that at around 3.15pm today, officers were called to a shopping centre carpark on North Parade at Mount Druitt, following reports of a brawl.
Two groups of women, aged in their 20s, were reportedly fighting with knives and machetes on the shopping centre’s rooftop car park outside the Hoyts cinema.
“Whilst police were at the scene, uniform officers were confronted by a male allegedly armed with a machete, who threatened them,” Police said.
“Police then fired a number of shots at the man.”
Officers immediately rendered first aid to the man, who was then treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident commenced.
Just after 4pm, a critical incident was declared when the man, believed to be aged in his 20s, died at the scene.
A critical incident team from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
