Man crashes ute into Mudgee Police Station

A man has been charged after he allegedly drove at several police officers before crashing into a police station in the state’s central west yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, NSW Police said that at around 1.30pm on Friday, officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District were conducting on foot patrol along Market Street in Mudgee when a ute allegedly “drove at them”.

“The officers attempted to stop the driver; however, he allegedly failed to follow police directions and left the scene,” Police said.

“A short time later, the driver – a 67-year-old man – allegedly drove the vehicle at another police officer exiting Mudgee Police Station, before crashing into the front foyer of the police station.”

Police say no injuries were reported from the incident.

The man was arrested on scene and taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with destroy/damage property with intent to endanger life, two counts of use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and custody of knife in public place – subsequent offence.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 4 later today.

NSW Police said contingencies are being put in place to meet the needs of the local community and Mudgee Police Station remains contactable via Orana Mid Western Police District on 02 6883 1599.
