Queensland Police have charged a Nambour man for allegedly vandalising public and private property with graffiti on 19 separate occasions in one day.
Prior to his arrest, Police had received reports of graffiti using black spray paint on various walls, public and private buildings, rubbish bins, bridges, and public walkways within the Nambour Central Business District (CBD) on 2 October.
Extensive inquiries identified 19 separate graffiti offences in Nambour on Howard Street, Lowe Street, Queen Street, Short Street, Ann Street and throughout Quota Park.
Officers from Nambour Police Station and the Criminal Investigation Branch executed a search warrant at a Nambour home yesterday, where a 23-year-old Nambour man was arrested.
The man has been charged with 19 counts of wilful damage by graffiti, and one count each of face masked with intent to commit indictable offence and contravene requirement police officer. He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
Nambour Police Station Officer in Charge, Senior Sergeant Pete Hocken said this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.
“Some of the graffiti included offensive language and was in public view of people of all ages,” Senior Sergeant Hocken said.
“That goes against the welcoming and safe community we’re working to protect in Nambour.
“I encourage anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour or these acts of vandalism to contact police. All reports will be fully investigated.”
