A 56-year-old Chifley man is due to face court over claims he made multiple nuisance calls to ACT Policing’s Triple Zero and 131 444 between Friday and Sunday.
Police will allege the man called Triple Zero but hung up before speaking. When operators called him back to confirm his welfare he was verbally abusive towards them.
The man was told to stop calling Triple Zero unless it was an emergency but he allegedly continued to make nuisance phone calls, ACT Policing said in a statement.
At around 11:20am on Sunday, officers attended the man’s home in Chifley and arrested him.
He was charged with 10 counts of making vexatious calls to emergency services.
“ACT Policing is reminding the community that it is an offence under ACT and Commonwealth legislation to make a false report to police and to cause police or other emergency service resources to be wasted,” Police said.
“Inappropriate use of the Triple Zero (000) number can delay emergency responses to those in genuine need.”
