The Queensland Government has announced a major infrastructure project to combine Roma State College’s Junior and Middle School campuses, creating a centralised hub for Prep to Year 6 students.
The plan will include relocating the Prep to Year 2 Junior School currently located on Bowen Street, to the Middle School campus at Cottell Street, which already accommodates students from Years 3 to 6 and specialist secondary classes.
By consolidating the Junior and Middle campuses, the project will form a Junior School Precinct on the northern side of the Middle Campus.
Minister for Education and the Arts, John-Paul Langbroek said the project would be transformative for the local community.
“The Crisafulli Government is delivering a modern, centralised learning hub at Roma State College by bringing its campuses together,” Minister Langbroek said.
“The Junior Campus is currently located 1.5 kilometres away from the College’s other two campuses and this project will provide students with better access to shared facilities and support services, simplify school drop-off and pick-up routines for families, and strengthen school culture.
“Creating a combined campus for Prep to Year 6 reflects the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to delivering world-class education and fit-for-purpose infrastructure for regional communities.
“Roma State College’s new Junior School Precinct will be adjacent to the Senior Campus, which will ensure every student has access to the best possible opportunities from Prep to Year 12.
The project includes:
- Refurbishment of four existing buildings to create modern learning spaces for Prep to Year 2 students.
- Extension of a playground and a covered shade structure designed to encourage outdoor learning and play.
- An upgraded undercover area that connects two classroom blocks in the Junior precinct for assemblies and covered activities.
Roma State College Principal, Monique Pfingst said the announcement was welcomed by the school community.
“Our College has worked hard to foster a connected culture across our three campuses,” Principal Pfingst said.
“Bringing all students together will enhance the strong sense of pride we already have in our community, from Prep right through to Year 12.”
The construction contract for the project is expected to be awarded in late August, with work to begin later this year.
The new precinct is set to open for the start of Term 3, 2027.
