Career public servant, Kylie Maj, has been appointed as the next Director General of the Western Australian Department of Justice.
WA Attorney General John Quigley today announced Ms Maj’s five-year appointment, which will commence on 28 June.
“I would like to congratulate Ms Maj on her appointment as Director General for the Department of Justice where she has already made a significant contribution,” he said.
“Ms Maj cares deeply about delivering the Department’s objective of providing high quality and accessible justice services for all Western Australians, particularly those who are most vulnerable.
“Ms Maj has been driving justice reform initiatives and has overseen the development and introduction of a record number of Bills into Parliament.”
Ms Maj established the Legislative Services directorate, convened the Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee and developed the Family and Domestic Violence Strategic Framework.
Outside the Department, her senior roles at the Office of the Auditor General, Ombudsman WA and the Department of the Premier and Cabinet also centred on complex justice matters.
“Ms Maj has been acting in this role since January and is well credentialled to continue to set a clear direction for the Department, to innovate and deliver the agency’s reform agenda,” said Corrective Services Minister, Paul Papalia.
“She is a dedicated and outcome focused leader with a deep understanding of the justice system and a proven record in identifying innovative solutions to complex social problems.”
