The Queensland Government has announced plans to unlock 6.1 hectares of development-ready land in Ipswich for potential new housing.
The land release, which is located on Mary Street in Bundamba, is the third land release by Economic Development Queensland in as many months.
It comes just weeks after the Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, announced that the Government’s $2 billion activation fund would fast-track the delivery of two projects in Ipswich to unlock 11,300 new homes.
“The Bundamba land release comprises three opportunities – the first two sites are 2.21 hectares and 1.62 hectares in size and are available to the open market for immediate residential development,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
“The third site is 0.86 hectares and is available to the open market for mixed use.
“This partnership with Ipswich City Council will unlock new homes to support this key growth area.
“This land release is part of the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to refocus Economic Development Queensland and unlock surplus land to ease Labor’s Housing Crisis.
“We encourage developers to consider these prime opportunities and reach out to EDQ to investigate their future potential.”
Ipswich Acting Mayor, Nicole Jonic said that having this land unlocked in Bundamba is a game-changer for the local community.
“With Ipswich’s population growing rapidly, this development-ready land will help ease the housing shortfall and provide a variety of housing options as well as commercial spaces and community facilities, that reflect the needs of the local community,” Acting Mayor Jonic said.
“This 6.1 hectares of land is in a prime location in Bundamba with public transport options ensuring access for residents to access jobs, education and services, in line with our new Ipswich City Plan 2025.
“I would like to thank the State Government and Economic Development Queensland for working with Ipswich City Council to ensure that together, we are delivering additional housing for Ipswich residents.”
To prepare the site for development, Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) will ensure the delivery of essential infrastructure – such as an internal access street, stormwater detention and utility services – supported by Federal Government funding.
