The WA Government has today announced Karratha will be the launch city for Youth Week WA 2025, with a special event to kick-start festivities next April.
Youth Week is WA’s largest annual celebration of young people, aged 10-25 years old, recognising their valuable contributions and providing them opportunities to express ideas, raise important issues and connect with peers in their local communities.
WA Youth Minister, Hannah Beazley said the City of Karratha Council’s strong record of fostering youth participation and engagement in decision-making made it the ideal candidate to host the event along with the Department of Communities.
“I’m delighted on International Youth Day to announce Karratha as the launch city for Youth Week 2025, which I know will build upon the success of past events, with more than 4,000 young people calling Karratha home,” said Ms Beazley.
“The City of Karratha’s commitment to engaging young community members in their planning and decision-making reflects the principles of Youth Week – and makes them the ideal host.
“Youth Week is such an important and unforgettable experience, and I look forward to joining the City of Karratha next year to launch the statewide festivities.”
Youth Week launch events are traditionally hosted in regional Western Australia to celebrate and showcase the unique talents and contributions of young people throughout our regional communities.
Amplifying the voices of regional young people was also one of the outcomes from consultation on the State’s new Youth Action Plan, being launched later this year.
This year’s Youth Week was launched in Albany and was one of more than 100 events held statewide that celebrated young people.
“I’m thrilled that Karratha has been chosen as the launch city for Youth Week WA 2025,” said Pilbara MLA, Kevin Michel.
“Young people in the Pilbara are passionate, engaged and deserving of recognition, which is why I’m so glad to see this opportunity take shape for the region.”
