The NSW Government’s Bradfield Development Authority has announced the appointment of a head contractor for the two-hectare Bradfield City Central Park which it says will anchor Australia’s newest city.
FDC Construction & Fitout has been named as Head Contractor to deliver the iconic public space that will anchor Australia’s first new city in 100 years.
Positioned above the new Bradfield Metro Station, the Authority says Central Park will be the key arrival point welcoming visitors and providing the community, residents and local businesses with important green space at the heart of Bradfield City.
“Central Park will become the heart of Bradfield City, a place for families, workers and visitors to meet, play and enjoy the outdoors,” said Bradfield Development Authority CEO, Ken Morrison.
“Appointing FDC as Head Contractor brings us another step closer to creating a world‑class public space that reflects the identity, aspirations and energy of this new city.
“We are proud to be working with outstanding partners to deliver a park that will serve the community for generations to come.”
FDC will lead the delivery of the world‑class park infrastructure, including the signature Sky Ring, Woven Play and Interwoven Heart play areas, and the multi‑use Gathering Green with space for up to 5,000 people.
The works will also include the installation of amenities, decks, pathways, lighting and boulevards. More than 550 mature trees and over 55,000 native shrubs, grasses and ground covers representing more than 84 different shrub species will be planted, with public art co‑designed by Dharug artists integrated throughout the park.
FDC Managing Director, Russell Grady said, “Bradfield City is one of Australia’s most exciting city building endeavours, and Central Park will set the tone with a considered, vibrant heart.
“FDC is proud to partner with Bradfield Development Authority to deliver an innovative, nature rich public space that honours Country and creates real local jobs, skills and apprenticeship pathways across Western Sydney.”
Designed by ASPECT Studios, Central Park will be supported by innovative technology to best care for the park and its users, adapting to a changing climate and a new, growing city, said Mr Morrison.
Construction of Central Park is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, with the park set to open alongside the Bradfield Metro station.
