NSW Police Cybercrime Squad detectives have charged a former employee over their alleged illegal access and manipulation of a Sydney-based company’s data.
State Crime Command’s Cybercrime Squad established Strike Force Pardey in May 2024 to investigate the unlawful access and manipulation of communication data from a Chatswood company.
Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 24-year-old person at Sydney Domestic Airport about 1.15pm on 19 June.
“They were taken to Mascot Police Station where they were charged with unauthorised modification of data with intent to cause impairment and impair electronic communications to/from computer,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Police will allege in court that the person utilised their access credentials associated with their former role with the company to gain access to the company’s IT systems to significantly disrupt the business, impacting customers globally.”
The person was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 8 July.
Investigations under Strike Force Pardey continue.
