Flugge appointed to WA Environmental Protection Authority

The WA Government has announced the appointment of Dr Regina Flugge to the independent Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

Dr Flugge is an environmental scientist with more than 30 years’ experience in resources, agriculture, governance, and conservation, and has been Chair of the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Advisory Committee since 2019.

She is a member of the Australian World Heritage Advisory Committee and previously served as a Deputy Chair and member of the Biosecurity Council of Western Australia, and a member of the Conservation and Parks Commission.

“Dr Flugge’s diverse experience will be a tremendous asset to the EPA,” said WA Environment Minister, Matthew Swinbourn.

“Having nine members on the EPA limits the extent of conflicts during decision-making, thereby reducing approvals delays, while preserving the EPA’s independence and the nature of advice it provides to government.

“I look forward to seeing the valuable contribution Dr Flugge makes to our State’s environment as a member of the EPA.”

Dr Flugge replaces member and former Deputy Chair Lee McIntosh, who ended her term in November last year.

The EPA’s operations are governed by the Environmental Protection Act 1986 with members appointed by the Governor of Western Australia on the nomination of the Environment Minister.
