Five charged over ‘secret payments’ to Queensland Health officials for medical device deals

Five people are facing serious criminal charges in relation to a Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) investigation which found that representatives of a medical device company allegedly made secret payments to Queensland Health officials in return for the use of the company’s medical devices in public hospitals.

As part of Investigation Barzona, conducted in cooperation with the Queensland Office of the Health Ombudsman (OHO), it will also be alleged that the public officers failed to declare conflicts of interest concerning these payments and their involvement in the company to Queensland Health, the CCC said in a statement.

Four people have been charged as part of Investigation Barzona with a range of offences including Fraud, Official Corruption and Misconduct in relation to Public Office. Three will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 15 January 2026 and one will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 28 January 2026.

The Commission confirmed an arrest warrant had been issued for a fifth person.

“While these matters are before the court, the CCC will not be commenting further,” the Commission stated.
