The first sod has been turned on works to construct a new $9.8 million Proserpine Police Station, replacing the current facility in Mill Street which was opened in 1967.
The new station will deliver contemporary policing infrastructure designed to better support officers and improve operational capability across the district.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Dan Purdie said the project demonstrated the Government’s commitment to restoring frontline resources.
“This new Proserpine Facility with help local police respond faster, investigate more effectively and restore safety to the Whitsundays community,” Minister Purdie said.
“After years of weak laws that emboldened repeat youth offenders, we are delivering stronger laws, better facilities and more support for officers on the ground.”
Member for Whitsunday and Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, Amanda Camm said the new station was future-proofing policing in a rapidly growing region.
“As the Whitsundays continues to grow, it’s critical our police have contemporary facilities to better support victims and keep our community safe,” Minister Camm said.
“The Crisafulli Government is committed to restoring safety to Queenslanders and delivering the frontline infrastructure our regional community needs.”
Acting Assistant Commissioner Graeme Paine said the replacement Proserpine Police Facility reflects the QPS’s commitment to adapting to the changing needs of the local community.
“The existing station has served the community well for many years, but as Proserpine and the surrounding region continues to grow, it’s important that our facilities also evolve to support our officers and the people they serve,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Paine said.
“This new facility will provide our officers with the tools and resources they need to work towards the safety and security of the community, while also creating a space that supports the wellbeing of both staff and community members.”
