The Victorian Government has released the final designs for the new St Leonard’s Pier, which is set to feature wheelchair accessible fishing locations, curved seating that overlooks bay views and a low landing, providing safer access for boaters, divers and snorkellers.
The Government said the new design has been shaped by community feedback and ensures protection of the pier’s heritage values and recognises the significance of the marine environment including the nearby shipwrecks and archaeological artefacts.
“We listened to community feedback and developed a new pier design that protects local heritage while creating a contemporary space for the community to gather, fish, learn and connect with the bay,” said Minister for Ports and Freight, Melissa Horne.
The expanded pier will also include educational signage that shares the maritime history of St Leonards, highlighting the bay’s marine flora and fauna.
“This rebuild isn’t just about infrastructure – it’s about creating a safe, inclusive and vibrant community place that locals and visitors will enjoy for generations to come,” said Member for Bellarine, Alison Marchant.
The tender for construction will be open in the coming weeks.
