NSW Police is taking to the screens of Sydney’s metropolitan transport network to broadcast the faces of people who may be able to assist with inquiries into alleged violent crime and sexual offences across the network.
The faces of 15 people will be displayed on around 350 digital screens, with Police appealing for members of the public to come forward with information.
Operation Waratah was established by the Police Transport Command (PTC) in 2024 to target Sydney’s most violent public transport offenders, and has since seen 100s of the state’s most-violent alleged offenders arrested and charged for offences allegedly committed against commuters and transport staff.
The operation is focused on targeting people engaging in violent activity and committing sexual offences on Sydney’s transport network including trains, buses, ferries and the new Sydney Metro.
To date, more than 1500 people have been arrested with more than 2500 charges laid as a result of previous operations.
Operation Waratah 6 commenced in May, with up to 200 officers per day deployed during the operational phase in July. It’s aim is to safeguard the community by delivering coordinated, intelligence-led policing across the public transport network and surrounding precinct with high-visibility patrols, community engagement and the proactive targeting of alleged offenders.
