Extra anti-looting patrols deployed to Hervey Bay

Additional police have been deployed to Hervey Bay to conduct high-visibility anti-looting patrols and doorknocks across flood-affected communities.

In a statement, Queensland Police said officers from Central Region and the Tactical Crime Squad have been stationed in Hervey Bay and will be conducting additional and extended patrols in the area.

The patrols will be aimed at deterring anti-social and criminal behaviour to protect the property of flood victims and the doorknocks will be focused on assisting flood effected homes and businesses in the recovery phase.

Maryborough Patrol Group Acting Inspector Brooke Flood said the additional resources will boost local boots already on the ground.

“Local police and emergency services have worked extremely hard throughout this weather event, serving their communities while their homes and families were too at risk,” A/Inspector Flood said.

“The additional support will allow us to increase proactive patrols across Hervey Bay and support us in preventing crime and protecting our communities, as we work on recovering from the severe weather event.”
