EV industry representatives to appear at Victorian charging inquiry

Victoria’s Legislative Council Economy and Infrastructure Committee will hold two days of public hearings this week as part of its inquiry into how the state can best harmonise electric vehicles (EVs) with electricity supply and demand.

The inquiry is exploring a range of issues, including strategies to reduce EV charging during periods of peak demand on the electricity grid and increase charging during times of peak supply. It will examine whether public charging infrastructure is being rolled out at a sufficient rate across Victoria, particularly in older suburbs where off-street parking is limited.

Thursday’s hearing will include evidence from a panel of Charge Point Operators, including Evie Networks and JOLT Charge and from kerbside chargers EVSE and EVX. The Committee will also hear from representatives of the battery and battery recycling industries, the Australian Energy Regulator and a panel of academic experts.

On Friday, the Committee will take evidence from the Electric Vehicle Council, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce and the Australian Automotive Dealer Association.

The Committee will also hear from car maker Volvo and energy provider AGL, as well as a panel of experts on fire suppression.

The hearings will be held from 10am on 26 and 27 February.

Both hearings will be broadcast live on the Committee’s website.
