Queensland Attorney-General, Deb Frecklington, has this morning confirmed the resignation of Dr Linzi Wilson-Wilde from her role as Director, Forensic Science Queensland, effective immediately.
The news follows the suspension of Dr Wilson-Wilde (pictured) in June after “contamination issues” were identified.
FSQ is an independent statutory authority and forensic service provider, which supports the state’s criminal justice and coronial systems with forensic biology and forensic chemistry services.
Commissions of inquiry in 2022 and 2023 found serious failings over many years at the FSQ lab, including a “fatally flawed” automated testing method that may have seen offenders escape conviction. More than 120 recommendations resulted from the commissions of inquiry to address “disturbing and troubling” issues with FSQ processes.
Dr Wilson-Wilde was appointed FSQ director in September 2024, after joining as interim chief executive in January 2023.
Executive Manager Forensic Biology, Natasha Mitchell, will continue acting in the role of Director until a permanent appointment is made.
“The Crisafulli Government is firmly committed to the future of Forensic Science Queensland,” the Attorney General said in a statement.
