Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested eight people following an alleged assault upon an off-duty Victoria Police officer outside a pub in Shepparton last weekend.
It will be alleged by Police that a person on an orange motorbike was riding erratically up and down Maude Street mall at around 12.30am on Sunday 25 October.
“An off-duty police officer, a 19-year-old man, asked the rider to leave the area before he was surrounded by a group of unknown males,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“The man and his friend, also aged 19, were allegedly punched to the face and kicked before they were able to flee.”
They were both transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released.
Detectives on Thursday executed eight search warrants in the Greater Shepparton area, arresting a 16-year-old boy, three 17-year-old boys and two 18-year-old men. They were interviewed and are each expected to be charged on summons.
A 20-year-old Kialla man was also arrested and released pending further enquiries, while a 17-year-old boy presented himself to a police station on Friday where he was interviewed and released pending summons.
Police say mobile phones, an off-road motorcycle and an imitation firearm were seized as part of the investigation.
