Driver charged with damaging Police vehicle

Queensland Police have charged a 19-year-old man after he allegedly drove at and damaged a marked police vehicle at West Gladstone on Friday.

It will be alleged that at around 7:20pm, officers attempted to intercept a vehicle, believed to be a Ford sedan, on Fowler Lane, near Tank Street, but it failed to stop, struck the police vehicle, and fled the area.

The officers in the vehicle were not physically injured.

“Later that evening, police located the alleged male driver at a Clinton residence and took him into custody,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

Following further enquires, officers also located and seized a Holden Commodore nearby, which officers further alleged the man had previously driven whilst unlicenced at Calliope on 16 May.

The man has been charged with six offences including two counts of unlicensed driving and one count each of damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle, and evasion offence.

He has been remanded in custody, and he is due to reappear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on 13 July.

Officers are still attempting to locate the Ford sedan involved in the 3 July incident and are appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward.
