The Tasmanian Government has announced the launch of Discover Heritage, a new user-friendly, interactive web-based platform to explore places on the Tasmanian Heritage Register.
Minister for the Arts, Madeleine Ogilvie, said Tasmania has a rich built heritage sector, providing Tasmanians with an enviable lifestyle and offering visitors unique tourism experiences.
“From our historic villages to early convict, agricultural and industrial sites, much of our built heritage remains intact, setting us apart from other areas of the country,” said Minister Ogilvie.Â
“Discover Heritage makes it easy to explore the thousands of heritage places and sites listed on the Heritage Register, providing multiple ways to search including by place, location, architectural style, chronological period, designer or notable people.
“The search platform is also available from a smart phone, making it easy to learn more about places while out walking or touring.

“Other features include being able to click on a link under the architectural style section to discover information on 16 architectural styles, from the early colonial period through to today’s contemporary and 21st century styles.”
She said Discover Heritage was the culmination of several years of work by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, overseen by the Tasmanian Heritage Council.
“I congratulate the teams involved.”
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future ensures vital heritage sites can be preserved and enjoyed by generations to come.
“Discover Heritage is an excellent tool to educate the broader community on what they are seeing in front of them when they tour our beautiful towns and regions,” the Minister said.
