Counterfeit notes on the move in Burnie

Tasmania Police is warning businesses in North West of the State to be wary of counterfeit $20, $50 and $100 notes which have been circulating around Burnie in recent weeks.

Police say that while the notes appear legitimate at first glance, they have “this is not legal tender, it’s used for motion props” written across the bottom.

The transparent window is also not transparent.

“When handling cash, businesses should check notes for any inconsistencies such as this before accepting them as payment,” Tasmania Police said.

“If people detect counterfeit notes, they should contact police and provide any relevant information, including CCTV footage if possible.”

Information can also be provided to police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers Tasmania anonymously on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au.
