Contractor appointed for $20m Northcote parenting centre

The Victorian Government has announced the appointment of a contractor to deliver the next stage of construction of the new $20 million Northcote Early Parenting Centre (EPC).

Minister for Health Infrastructure, Melissa Horne, confirmed City Circle has been appointed to demolish the current existing buildings on the site.

These early works will enable main construction to commence.

“As construction on this new centre gets underway – local parents will soon be getting the support they need here,” said Minister Horne.

Located at 30 Green Street, the EPC is set to offer specialised support for parents with children up to the age of four.

EPCs offer programs to strengthen parenting skills and support child and family health and wellbeing.

The centre will be designed to feel like a “home away from home” and will feature 10 overnight family units. Consulting rooms, a shared kitchen, dining areas, a playroom and various outdoor spaces will also be included.

Families attending EPCs can also get support for a range of issues, including sleep and settling support, parent-child relationships, and strengthening parenting confidence.

“We’re building and upgrading EPCs across Victoria – so more new parents can get the support they need,” said Minister for Children, Lizzie Blandthorn.

The new EPC will be operated by Tweddle Child and Family Health Service.
