Construction is underway on one of the Gold Coast’s largest social and affordable housing projects, being delivered by the Australian Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund and the Queensland Government.
The high-rise Southport Supportive Housing Project will include a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom apartments, with wraparound support services on site.
The housing project is due for completion mid-2027, with the first tenants – including people at risk of homelessness or sleeping rough on the Gold Coast – to move in by late 2027.
Federal Special Envoy for Social Housing and Homelessness, Josh Burns said a community housing provider will be engaged to manage the project, as well as a specialist homelessness service providing support services for tenants.
Mr Burns said the project was about more than providing safe homes.
“The project creates a genuine pathway out of homelessness,” he said.
“With access to onsite wraparound support services, it offers the stability and care that will transform lives.
“Through the Housing Australia Future Fund, the Albanese Government is proud to partner with the Queensland Government on this innovative model of supportive housing.

“This 200-home project exemplifies the kind of collaborative approach we need to support Australians in need and those at risk of homelessness across the country – with all levels of Government, community housing providers and support services working together.”
Minister for Housing, Sam O’Connor said the Queensland Government was ramping up social and affordable housing construction for the growing Gold Coast region.
“We are working with all levels of government, and with the community housing sector, to deliver more homes for Queenslanders in need,” Minister O’Connor said.
“Importantly, this project will provide 200 vulnerable Gold Coast households with much more than a safe and secure roof over their heads.
“It will also offer the wraparound support they need to avoid falling through the cracks, such as help to find employment and to live independently.”
