The Queensland Government’s new, state of-the-art Caloundra South emergency services precinct has been officially opened today.
The $29.9 million precinct brings together Police, Fire and Ambulance personnel to the one location, which the Government says has recorded growing demand for emergency services.
The 6000sqm precinct is located at the new Aura Town Centre, close to main throughfares, such as the Bruce Highway and Bells Creek Arterial Road, to enable crews to respond swiftly to incidents.
“This new precinct will help support the growing Caloundra South community now and into the future,” said Premier, Steven Miles.
“Each day our firies, paramedics and police help Queenslanders in need. This modern facility will have all three agencies in the one location ready to respond to any emergency.
“This is just another example of my government doing what matters by delivering world-class facilities for our emergency services.”
The new $8.5m fire station will provide a 24/7 response to the region and will feature a three-bay engine room, a rest and recline area, duty office space, breathing apparatus and equipment storerooms, a locker/turnout room with the capacity for 50 firefighters, and a freestanding training tower.
“This is a significant investment in community safety for the growing Caloundra region and builds on the Miles Government’s commitment to our frontline services,” said Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery, Nikki Boyd.
“This new facility will support firefighters to continue to respond quickly and effectively to a wide range of incidents,” said Queensland Fire Department Commissioner Steve Smith.
“There will be one officer and three firefighters on duty 24 hours a day seven days a week, so the community can rest assured they will have round-the-clock fire response.
“It highlights the commitment we have to the community, their safety and maintaining a high-level of service as the region continues to grow,” he said.
The new $7.9m ambulance station will offer modern facilities and will be staffed by 16 paramedics and an officer-in-charge. It will include a 10-bay plant room, office and write-up space, equipment recharge area, break and locker rooms, a multi-function rest-study room, as well as a secure staff and on-site visitor parking.
“Our officers throughout the Sunshine Coast region do a fantastic job delivering ambulance services, and this new facility will ensure our officers can continue to service Caloundra South and the surrounding areas,” said Queensland Ambulance Service Commissioner, Craig Emery.
“The new ambulance station will be staffed by 16 paramedics and one Officer in Charge and will deliver 24/7 operational ambulance care, providing even greater service to these growing communities.
“The QAS has a strong working relationship with our fire and police counterparts, so having each of these emergency services located as direct neighbours within this new emergency services precinct will allow those strong working relationships to continue.”
Community safety will be further boosted in the area with the new $13.5 police station that will feature a general duties dayroom, duty officer station, investigation workspaces, interview rooms, conference/major incident rooms, property storage, gymnasium, and staff locker room.
“The new Caloundra South police facility will help support the growing Sunshine Coast population and enhance policing services for the community,” said Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski.
“Having a modern and purpose-built facility will help local police better serve the needs of the community now and into the future.”
