The ACT Government has announced the appointment of Shaw Building Group as the construction partner for the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) facility in Erindale.
The new purpose-built facility is being delivered as part of the Northside Hospital Project, with services that are not required to be located on an acute hospital campus being relocated to community settings.
Construction of the CAMHS facility will start later this year and is expected to be completed in late 2027.
“The relocation of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service to Erindale delivers on our commitment to improve mental health services and access,” said Minister for Health Infrastructure, Rachel Stephen-Smith.
“The new facility will be purpose-built to support the work of clinicians and the recovery of young Canberrans.
“From the Mental Health Kids Hub in Greenway to the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Erindale, we’re delivering more free mental healthcare for all young Canberrans.”
The Minister said the new centre at Erindale will be a bigger site designed to support the wellbeing and recovery of young Canberrans and their families with therapeutic indoor and outdoor spaces, convenient access to public transport, more parking and the capacity to expand into the future.
It will support the continued delivery of key youth mental health programs including the Cottage Day Program, CAMHS Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and the Childhood Early Intervention Program.
The CAMHS program runs five days a week and supports young people to build confidence, achieve their potential and improve day-to-day functioning.
“The experiences young people have during childhood and adolescence can have a lasting impact throughout their lives. That is why investing in accessible, high-quality mental health support is so important,” said Minister for Mental Health, Marisa Paterson.
“This service will provide that support, helping more young Canberrans access the care they need, when and where they need it.”
The current CAMHS services and programs will remain fully operational until the new facility at Erindale is complete, the Ministers confirmed.
