The WA Government has announced the appointment of Karen Brown as Chair of both Lotterywest and Healthway Boards, commencing on 1 September.
Ms Brown (pictured) replaces Professor Peter Klinken AC as Chair, who is retiring after a six-year tenure.
Ms Brown is currently a Lotterywest Board member, and her board experience also spans the Royal Flying Doctor Service, South Metropolitan Health Service, Edge Employment Solutions, The Pinnacle Foundation, and Purple Communications.
Professor Klinken’s tenure as Chair of both Lotterywest and Healthway has placed both organisations in a position of strength, which includes record Lotterywest sales and community investment, and Healthway delivering significant health promotion outcomes for the State, the Government said WA Premier, Roger Cook.
“Lotterywest and Healthway are institutions of Western Australia, both supporting countless opportunities for community-focused organisations across our State,” said the Premier.
“I congratulate Karen Brown on her appointment as Chair for Lotterywest and Healthway. Her experience and passion for WA will continue on from the incredible efforts of her predecessor Professor Klinken AC.”
New members will also be joining each Board:
- Dr Guy Singleton joins Lotterywest’s Board for a three-year term. Dr Singleton is Chief External Affairs Officer at DEVELOP, with significant experience in Indigenous people’s development, natural resource management, political engagement, and the resources and not-for-profit sector.
- Professor Billie Giles-Corti joins Healthway’s Board for a three-year term. Professor Giles-Corti is Professor Emerita at RMIT University and is Australia’s leading public health researcher who has been at the forefront of urban planning and health research globally.
Dr Guy Singleton will fill the Lotterywest Board member position, previously held by Karen Brown. Professor Giles-Corti fills the vacancy by Healthway Board member Hon Jim McGinty AM, who has retired after serving six years.
“It is fantastic to welcome Dr Guy Singleton, whose insights in maintaining meaningful and ethical partnerships between land use proponents and Traditional Owners will be a significant asset to the Board,” said Premier Cook.
Health Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson thanked Professor Klinken AC for being a dedicated advocate for the health and wellbeing of all Western Australians through his work with Healthway.
“I’d like to thank Professor Klinken for his exceptional contribution to advancing health promotion outcomes across our State,” she said.
“I’d also like to welcome Karen Brown and Professor Billie Giles-Corti and I look forward to working with them to further progress our vision of a healthy Western Australia.”
